We have kicked off an exciting new project, Getting On Together, and the children have embraced it with enthusiasm, curiosity and plenty of smiles. Through a range of engaging activities, the children are experiencing new foods (some of which look a little strange at first!), listening to unfamiliar languages, and enjoying music from different parts of the world. These experiences spark curiosity, encourage questions and help children feel confident trying something new.

WHY THIS PROJECT 🤔

This project invites children to explore different countries and learn about the wider world in a hands-on and meaningful way.

Getting Along Together is a learning project that helps children explore the diversity of cultures, countries and communities around the world in an engaging and meaningful way. As the project develops, children learn about different traditions, religions, languages, festivals, and ways of living, helping them understand that people may look, live and communicate differently.

Through age-appropriate discussions about individuality, colour and race, children are encouraged to recognise and value what makes each person unique. The project strongly supports children’s personal, social and emotional development by promoting tolerance, respect and kindness towards others. By exploring diversity in a positive way, children learn that although we may be different, everyone belongs and deserves to be treated with care and respect, laying strong foundations for empathy and inclusion as they grow.

Our explorers kicked off the project with an All About Me essay and presentation. This gave everyone the chance to learn about each other’s cultures, religions, and traditions — as well as important facts such as who has a pet that definitely runs the house, who hates mornings, and who claims they “only forgot once” (we’re still investigating). By the end, the class knew far more about one another — and discovered that curiosity, kindness, and a good sense of humour are universal languages.

🌍 The Travel

As part of our Getting Along Together project, the children began their journey by exploring England. They learned about its history, traditions and landmarks, as well as English music, art, literature and food. The children also discovered England’s diverse communities and how people from different backgrounds live and celebrate together, helping them develop curiosity and respect for others.

Next, we travelled (in our imaginations!) to Nigeria in West Africa. The children learned about Nigerian culture, climate, music, dance and family life, discovering how important community and celebration are. They also explored Nigerian food and traditions, gaining an understanding of how life in another country can be both different and similar to their own.

Through this travel-themed learning, children developed respect, kindness and curiosity, learning that even though people live in different ways around the world, we can all get along together.

🌍 Around the World in 80… Glue Sticks

Our explorers have been embracing a variety of ways to learn, including learning through craft and baking. These creative experiences provide meaningful opportunities to explore ideas while developing important skills — and, as an added bonus, they usually involve a bit of mess and a lot of excitement.

During our craft sessions, the children got stuck into balloon paper mâché, creating their very own world globes and hot air balloons. Armed with balloons, strips of paper and an impressive amount of glue, our explorers worked hard to transform very ordinary materials into something rather extraordinary. The room quickly became a hub of creativity, with sticky fingers, colourful designs and balloons rolling away at unexpected moments. The finished globes and balloons looked fantastic and really helped bring the idea of exploring our world to life.

🍪 Flags, Flour and a Whole Lot of Fun

The learning continued in the kitchen, where the children baked cookies and brownies and decorated them as flags from the countries they had researched. They carefully chose colours and patterns, showing great concentration and creativity — with impressive self-control not to eat the decorations straight away!

There were a few giggles, some sneaky taste-tests, and plenty of sticky fingers, but the activity was full of enjoyment and achievement. Baking the flags brought their learning to life, combining creativity, culture and a delicious sense of fun.

🌎 Sticky Fingers, Sweet Treats and Global Adventures

By combining craft and baking, the project offered a fun, memorable way to explore countries around the world. Covered in glue, dusted in flour, or sporting the occasional icing moustache, our little explorers embraced learning through play — proving that the best lessons are often messy, hands-on, and come with a sweet treat at the end. At Raising Explorers, learning isn’t school-like; it’s about curiosity, creativity, and discovering the world in ways that wobble, stick, and sometimes collapse — and that’s exactly how we like it.
